One month old today! I was taking about Perry's weight with Sean and it occurred to me that his ten percent loss is huge compared to an average baby's ten percent loss. He lost eighteen ounces at his lowest, which was eleven percent. That's three weeks of newborn gain at six ounces a week! So no wonder it's taking him time to catch up to birth weight. Just because he's big doesn't mean he gains weight proportionally faster. His tongue tie was released two weeks and three days ago and he held steady around nine five for the first week. Then he gained three and a half ounces the next week, and has been gaining about 3/4ths an ounce daily since. In the meantime he is wetting and filling diapers at a normal rate and is bright and alert. So my fretting will ebb soon, I expect. #perryweighin

Nine pounds eleven ounces. These are mostly for my notes, to monitor his gain. I'm uselessly sad that he's a month old and not back to birth weight, but he really is doing splendidly now.#perryweighin

Sean and Perry, post Thanksgiving feast!

I am delegating much of Thanksgiving this year because of Peregrine. With his weight gain troubles I am constantly encouraging him to nurse, which means I am (even more than usually) reluctant to put him down or have others hold him. That leaves me stranded on the couch while I direct other people. But they are rising to the challenge admirably. Here is Trixie grating cheese, Faith washing dishes in preparation for baking. Not pictured are Abaigeal and Gloria upstairs peeling potatoes. Gilbert has washed many more dishes than he usually would, and even Dorothy and Bede will get in on the act later by chopping fruit for the salad. Little Clementine is arranging all ingredients in order by size, type, and color. Very helpful. And of course Sean made the turkey and stuffing but he does that every year and it's amazing.I will make the gravy later, but that's it. The kids are doing cookies, mashed potatoes, rolls, green bean casserole and the dressing. It goes without saying, but if course I'll say it anyway: I'm thankful for my husband and children and all the ways they make my life the way it is. Happy Thanksgiving!

Up to nine pounds eight and a half ounces from a low of nine three! I'm teary-eyed about it. He's gaining something like a half ounce to an ounce a day – like a normal baby does.

Three weeks old! Perry is finally nursing well and has gone up a diaper size because he was soaking through the newborn ones! PS Our internets are back!

Hello all from No Internet Land! Perry update: slow gain this week, probably 2-2.5 ounces. And he's healing well. We may be getting internet back on Friday afternoon, so that will be nice.

Nursing was tougher for the boy today, but still better than it was before. It will be sore tomorrow too but after that the swelling and inflammation should be going down. I did the wound care once today and that was all I could manage. Tomorrow that's probably gonna be it too. As it heals I think it will get less painful for him and I'll be able to do it more, but I know my limits. #nope

He's nursing better already and he's up an ounce and a half from yesterday! He's a bit swollen but that should go down.Thank God. I'm so relieved it went well and he's improving already. Sean and I are both so happy and relieved. I said to him that I didn't realize how heavy this was to me until I put it down, and he said he felt the same way – giddy that Perry was going to be better. (On another note, we are without house internet until next Wednesday, so expect sporadic postings until then.)

Rocket man, burnin out his fuse up here alone… Procedure went fine, tongue, lip and two small cheek releases. Now the road to recovery!
